Fleet
Versatile Fleet for All Situations
The National St John Ambulance fleet is tailored to meet the diverse and challenging terrains of Papua New Guinea. Our vehicles include 4WD and 2WD ambulances, rapid response vehicles, and emergency support buses, ensuring we can respond efficiently in any situation, virtually anywhere.
Land Cruiser 78 Series:
The cornerstone of our fleet is the Toyota Land Cruiser 78 Series ambulances, with our custom version developed in partnership with Toyota Gibraltar. These ambulances are specifically designed for the rugged conditions of PNG. We also collaborate with local providers to assemble and build ambulances, ensuring they observe international safety and design principles. This commitment prioritises the safety of our patients and staff.
Emergency Response:
As the main authorised emergency ambulance service in PNG, we are sanctioned by the Roads and Traffic Authority and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to use red and blue lights. Our staff undergo rigorous driver training, which includes off-road and emergency response principles, ensuring they are equipped to handle any scenario with skill and professionalism.
Regular Fleet Maintenance
Our in-house mechanical and auto-electrical team plays a crucial role in this effort. This skilled team is responsible for the regular servicing, maintenance, and repair of our vehicles, ensuring they are always ready for deployment.
Regular Servicing
An average ambulance travels around 60,000km per year to bring people help. Our ambulances require servicing every 5,000km, which equates to about once per month.
Our mechanical team handle everything from routine checks to complex engine repairs, while our auto-electrical specialists ensure that all electrical systems, including emergency lighting and communication equipment, are functioning flawlessly.
By having a dedicated in-house team, we can quickly address any issues, minimise downtime, and ensure our ambulances are reliable and safe for both our staff and patients.
This integrated approach to vehicle maintenance supports our mission to provide swift and dependable emergency services across Papua New Guinea.
