The “Green Angels”

Across Papua New Guinea, St John Ambulance members are affectionately known as the “Green Angels”, reflective of their compassion, kindness, and unwavering professionalism.

Over 200 caring people:

The National St John Ambulance is proud of its highly skilled and dedicated team, consisting of over 200 professionally trained ambulance officers and emergency medical technicians. These officers are the backbone of our emergency response, providing essential care and support in critical situations.

Paramedic and Doctor Support

Our team is further supported by registered paramedics who deliver advanced life support, ensuring that patients receive the highest level of pre-hospital care. In addition, we have doctors who provide critical care, addressing the most severe and life-threatening conditions, both on the road and in the air.

RNs and HEOs

Our emergency response clinician ambulances are staffed with nurses and Health Extension Officers (HEOs) who offer frontline intermediate life support. Their expertise and dedication are crucial in stabilising patients and providing essential care during emergencies.

Comprehensive Emergency Team

Together, our multidisciplinary ambulance team works tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of the people of Papua New Guinea, responding swiftly and effectively to emergencies.

AMBULANCE TRAINING:

Training is at the core of our mission at National St John Ambulance. Our ambulance officers undergo rigorous training to ensure they are prepared to handle emergency situations with skill and professionalism. The training is conducted at our Ambulance Education College, which is the only Medical Board licensed ambulance training facility in the country.

Comprehensive In-House Training

The ambulance college provides all our in-house training, including comprehensive emergency care programs that equip our officers with the necessary knowledge and practical skills. In addition to our in-house training, we also deliver courses accredited by the National Training Council. These accredited courses ensure that our training meets national standards and prepares our staff to deliver high-quality emergency care across Papua New Guinea.

Continuous Education

Through continuous education and training, we maintain a highly competent team ready to provide exceptional care and support to the communities we serve. All ambulance personnel complete compulsory training and reaccreditation at least yearly.
