We have a team of doctors, nurses and health extension officers available to attend to our patients at their him. We will send a clinician to you depending on the complexity and acuity of the patient’s condition.
Once a booking has been confirmed, the patient will receive a SMS with the clinician’s estimated arrival time. We will endeavour to be at your side by the confirmed time. However, as an emergency service our health workers may be diverted to medical emergencies that are triaged as high priority.
On average, we see most of our patients within four hours of the booking confirmation, however this can vary depending on the season and other factors (e.g. weather, emergencies and incidents. We apologise in advance if we are not on time to your appointment.
The home medical service treats patients who need urgent medical care for non-life-threatening conditions. It is not for emergencies. If it is an emergency, call our Ambulance Control Centre on 111 to request an ambulance. Tell us that you have an existing home medical service booking so we can update our computer dispatch system.
It is important to monitor a patient’s symptoms – even after a clinician’s home visit has been booked. If a patient’s condition worsens, you should call us on 111 (or 303 1000) as we may advise the patient to go to hospital or we may decide it necessary to send an ambulance.

We prefer EFTPOS but you can also pay by bank transfer or cheque. We do not accept cash.
We have clinicians available 24 hours per day. However, appointments are subject to availability.
Our service does not replace your daytime general practitioner or health clinic. Our home visiting doctors and clinicians provide appropriate medical care when needed. Our Doctors and clinicians are also equipped to treat a range of common ailments.
St John’s doctors and Health Extension Officers are registered with the Medical Board of Papua New Guinea, and St John’s nurses are registered with the Nursing Council of Papua New Guinea and carry full medical indemnity insurance.
St John’s paramedics and ambulance officers are credentialed and practice under the supervision of St John’s Chief Medical Officer and carry full medical indemnity insurance.

Home medical care is a private health service.
St John is a charitable organisation that provides free public emergency ambulance high quality and private medical care services.
All proceeds from providing you with private medical services support the St John public ambulance service and other health activities. You may be able to recover a portion of the cost of home medical care from your health insurance – please check with your health insurer.
