St John Ambulance is a charity and statutory organisation that proudly provides the nation’s primary emergency ambulance service on behalf of the PNG Government.
St John Ambulance is responsible for receiving all nationwide emergency 111 calls requiring ambulance attendance. The ambulance service covers a population of 3 – 5 million people and responds to over 12,000 emergency calls for help each year.
We work together with partners to provide, develop and strengthen emergency medical response and retrieval services in PNG, as an annex of government.
Hundreds of St John personnel proudly and passionately serve in the road and air ambulance service, providing medical response and patient transport services 24/7, 365 days of the year.
St John’s ambulance operations across PNG are coordinated from our state-of-the-art emergency control centre in Port Moresby. The centre ensures lifesaving treatment reaches those in need quickly and efficiently.
Ambulance stations are located in:
- Port Moresby: 3 Mile, Waigani and Baruni
- Lae
- Kokopo
- Kundiawa
- Central: Bereina (opening soon)
Ambulance services are free to any Papua New Guinea requiring emergency life-saving care at a public hospital. Fees apply to visitors to Papua New Guinea, any person requesting transport to a private hospital, or medically non-urgent transport to a public health facility.
